Leica, renowned for its high-quality cameras, has unveiled its latest addition to the full-frame mirrorless camera lineup, the SL3. This new model is designed to deliver exceptional image quality, durability, and versatility, making it an appealing choice for professional photographers.
The standout feature of the Leica SL3 is its 60-megapixel resolution sensor, equipped with phase detection autofocus. This backside illuminated CMOS sensor incorporates Leica’s Triple Resolution Technology, allowing users to capture images in JPEG or DNG RAW format at 60, 36, or 18 megapixels without any cropping. With an expanded dynamic range of 15 stops and an ISO range from 50 to 100,000, the SL3 performs exceptionally well in various lighting conditions.
The inclusion of phase detection autofocus, combined with depth mapping and contrast recognition, ensures sharper photos even in low-light environments. The SL3 also features intelligent subject recognition, which guarantees consistent focus in dynamic scenes.
Leica has prioritized user comfort and intuitive operation in the design and functionality of the SL3. The camera boasts a redesigned grip, button layout, and menu navigation, enhancing ergonomics. Customizable function buttons and a streamlined menu design further enhance the user experience.
The SL3 introduces an EyeRes viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second. Additionally, it features a tilting rear LCD, making it easier to capture shots from low and high angles.
For videographers, the SL3 supports capture at up to 8K resolution and offers options for shooting in H.265 and ProRes formats, although with certain limitations.
Leica has made a bold design choice with the SL3’s power switch, opting for a large button reminiscent of desktop PCs. The camera is powered by a new BP-SCL6 battery but remains compatible with the previous SL2’s battery, albeit with reduced video capability and a shorter lifespan.
Manufactured in Germany, the Leica SL3 is available for order starting at $6,995. With its advanced features, exceptional image quality, and intuitive operation, the SL3 offers photographers a compelling option for capturing high-quality images in any situation.
