Google’s design language, introduced with the Pixel 6, has remained consistent in subsequent models, particularly evident in the signature camera bar. However, leaked renders of the Pixel 9 Pro indicate that Google is ready for a significant design departure.
Renowned leaker @OnLeaks, in collaboration with MySmartPrice, shared key details about the Pixel 9 Pro’s design. Notably, the camera bar has undergone a redesign, featuring a rounded look that mirrors the shape of the camera cutout’s search bar-like design. This departure from the integrated frame design of previous models is in line with the trend observed in Android brands in 2024, seemingly inspired by Apple’s recent iPhones.
Another interesting change is the potential return of the controversial temperature sensor, previously criticized for its limited practicality. While its effectiveness has been questioned, improvements might be expected before the Pixel 9 Pro’s official debut.
In terms of the display, leaked information suggests a slightly smaller size for the Pixel 9 Pro, measuring at 6.5 inches compared to the Pixel 8 Pro’s 6.7 inches. However, skepticism surrounds this claim as the reported height is only marginally taller than last year’s model, and the bezels don’t appear significantly larger.
The leaked dimensions indicate that the Pixel 9 Pro will have a body size of 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5mm at the thinnest point, expanding to 12mm at the camera bar. This makes it nearly identical in height, slightly wider, and marginally thinner than the Pixel 8 Pro.
While the leaked renders don’t provide information about the internal specifications, pricing, or release dates, it is expected that the Pixel 9 Pro will feature Google’s Tensor G4 SoC. Given the Pixel 8 Pro’s starting price of $1,000, a similar price point is anticipated. Additionally, Google’s historical pattern of fall flagship launches, often in October, suggests that the Pixel 9 Pro will follow suit.
Overall, the leaked renders of the Pixel 9 Pro indicate significant design changes, particularly in the camera bar and frame. As fans eagerly await the official release, it remains to be seen how these design alterations will be received by consumers.
